In 1949 London Zoos first polar bear cub Brumas was born, he was also the world’s first polar cub born in captivity.

Proud mum Ivy and baby Brumas attracted enormous publicity and polar bear popularity swept the nation.

Deans Rag Book were quick to recognise the profit potential and in 1950 Brumas was produced first by Deans, and over the next few years Deans produced Ivy.

There became such a demand for these bears that they were made in a variety of different materials including Mohair and Wool, because of shortages after the Second World War, complete Ivy and Brumas sets can now command high prices
